The Alphabet by Matahari Moonlight

Hello to all my siblings and everyone in my last life. I’m having a great time here in Bermuda and wanted to let you know how I am getting on. I get up to all sorts of stuff and Mummy says that I can't be just a Deerhound, I must be something else because...

I play like an Alligator and snap, snap my teeth with my Great Uncle Gryphon. Sometimes I just snap the air for fun.

When we’re out walking, Mummy sometimes gets asked if we are Afghan Hounds ...some people are very silly!

I get called a Bad Dog when I lick the food on the countertops and take the cat food.

I don’t like it when Daddy makes that Bee Buzzing noise at me and I run away.

I chase birds like a Bird-dog ...and stalk them like a Cat.

I've become a good Conversationalist. When Great, Great Uncle Kobi (a lumpy old Doberman/Husky cross) comes to stay he talks to me all day long. He's very boring and tells me off all the time, but we are very good at making a lot of noise! And now I talk really loudly when Mummy doesn't make my dinner fast enough.

I’m Crazy – crazy about tearing up tissues, kitchen towel and toilet rolls into the tiniest pieces possible so they fly all over the place like snow.

I’m definitely a Deerhound ‘cos I like to sleep-in in the morning like one; I can be defiant like one; I’m absolutely drop dead gorgeous like one, and I do the Deerhound flop like one ...I must be one!

Evidently I’m very Expensive! Not only did I cost a fortune to get here but so far I’ve eaten one of Daddy’s most expensive Cuban Cigars and destroyed an $800 dollar cheque from a client. Daddy had to photograph the pieces to show the client so he could get another one!

I’ve got a memory like an Elephant ...when Great Uncle Gryphon doesn’t eat his morning biscuits I always remember where they are put and I go back when no-one’s around and climb up high to get them. Sometimes I knock things over (like Mummy’s espresso) in my eagerness.

Mummy says that I’m just a Food-hound, that I should be pink with a curly tail because I’m such a pig. I’ll do anything for food – I love food, any type of food. Food, food, food, I love food! I get lots of cool treats at Obedience Class, I’ll do anything for the food ...that is after I’ve said hello to everyone at class of course.

I am friend to everyone!

I eat like a Gannet (or a Labrador ...take your pick). Got to get it down me before it disappears you know. I often have to bug mummy to feed me ‘cos I’m starving-to-death all the time!

I'm a Gardener extraordinaire.
I find the long strands of the weird grass that they have here and put my nose under and yank them up and out, so they are sticking up around the whole garden.
I also help with all the big colourful flowers that appear out of nowhere and bite them off. Sometimes they grow from pots on the table and I take care of those too.
I dig lots of holes all over the place - though I've got to be careful there or mummy could twist her ankle in one and then she wouldn’t be able to walk us.

I get called Good Dog and get kisses when I come, sit and stay before my breakfast and dinner.

I know how to be Hyper-active. When Ginger (or CLRD - Crazy Little Red Dog) the Viszla comes to stay I get very excited. Even though she’s middle-aged she’s on the move a lot. Her tail wags like crazy, she’s always shaking her ears, and she would chase the tennis ball all day long if she could. It’s the only time I like the tennis ball, so I race her for it.

I make Mummy quite irate sometimes!

I am very jolly – not much upsets me.

When daddy comes home on his bike I get very excited and leap like a Kangaroo - he usually still has his helmet on so he's safe if I knock him over! In-fact I try and jump on everyone I meet but Mummy doesn’t seem to appreciate this particular skill of mine!

I leap in the air and prance like a Lipizzaner Horse – I’m so beautiful!

I’m a bit of a lover ...I love to be cuddled, kissed and cajoled. I love everyone ...especially my Great Uncle Gryphon.

I'm manic like a Manchester ...Terrier that is -like my mate Remy. Especially when he my sees Ella our cat ...then he goes completely mad. I'm naughty with Ella and can’t leave her alone, but I'm not as bad as Remy! But lately Remy doesn't play as much as me ...guess I have more energy than him nowadays!

Mummy is always telling people that I am the naughtiest puppy she’s ever had ...I’m so proud!

Oh the life I have, playing and learning and sleeping and eating!

Sometimes I’m a Pain-in-the-neck. Ever since I’ve been here the bins in the bathrooms have to be put up high or I take stuff out.

I love to Play – in fact I think that everything and everyone is put on this earth to belong to me and play with me! When we get together with my mate Bailey (a Belgium/Dutch Shepherd) I have a great time, he’s my first friend my age. And when Farley (the Labrador) came to play the other day I also had a good time, but he is pretty slow at running and didn’t play for very long. And he kept going into the blue hole filled with water (the pool) I think he did that on purpose!!! CLRD goes in that thing too – I just don’t understand it. I love to run in the shallows of the ocean at the beach, but I ain’t going in that thing ...I fell in once and that was enough!

I am very quick – I can run like the wind. I’m much faster than anyone I know!

I have become quite the Retriever: when we go to open fields to play Mummy always finds something to throw for me to chase after and bring back to her – it’s great fun. And sometimes Guinness the Golden Retriever is there and retrieves things too.

I'm a great Shredder - I get the Palm Fronds (and bring them all inside as soon as Mummy turns her back and forgets to close the door) and I strip them to tiny little pieces all over the place. Mummy says that the vacuum cleaner might as well stay in the front 'cos she has to use it everyday!

I am very solid – like Reef and Indi I guess.

Daddy tells me that no matter how sweet I am, I’m not getting any of his chocolate.

I'm Tenacious like a Terrier: I won't give up on anything, no not anything, even if I'm absolutely exhausted. Just like the Energizer Bunny!

I’m a wonderful Thief. I steal pens, eye-glasses, tubes of cream, stones from the fountain –pretty much anything I can get actually- and I like to chew them up. And of course I steal food. Countertops seem to be a good place for food – and I can stand on my back legs, hook my elbows in the kitchen sink and take whatever is in there too.

My second name is Trouble!

I am an excellent Upholsterer
I’ve made a real effort at pulling apart the Dog Sofa ...done both sides and the slip cover, so now I’m working on the cushion cover.

I am very valuable – I know that one day I’ll be the best dog I can be and everyone will want me.

I am an excellent Woodworker
The lovely pine welsh-dresser looks quite different with my teeth marks all along the edges (so does the kitchen stool) and the new porcelain knobs look much more sturdy than the wooden ones that I chewed off...
...but I don't think mummy was happy with the work I did on her prize antique Bermuda Cedar Fishing chair - it's been moved.

I love it when we are all cuddling in Mummy & Daddy’s bed ...but they say I squirm too much ...that I squirm like a Worm.

When I've been bad Mummy make some strange XX*#X~X type words and tells me I've gone back to square-one and I'm delegated back to the kitchen area only. And I am soooo bored of hearing how Princess Rosie (the beautiful Deerhound before me) and Great Uncle Gryphon (he’s so handsome) were such perfect puppies, and so easy to rear! But I like to keep Mummy guessing – guessing about what she’s going to find I’ve done the next when she comes out of her office. I like to keep everyone on their toes – I may be a Lurcher?

I love being out in our yard – it’s not huge and I know every inch of it. My mates like to come to us to play ‘cos its fenced all the way round to keep us safe.

ZADS though ...I'm NOT a good Carer of the Elderly. Great Uncle Gryphon seems to fall over if I just look at him, let alone touch him. And when I body slam him he's a goner! Can’t do that to Great, Great Uncle Kobi though, he’s too big!

As you can see I keep very busy, but it’s getting quite hot here now so I am learning to “cool out” a bit during the daytime and go mad in the evening. Hope you are all doing as well as me and are keeping your family’s in line too.
Much Love from The Luna-tic
